"The Waiting Child," by Cindy Champanella

Here's What Amazon Had to Say about the Book:

About the Author: Cindy Champanella is very active in the adoption community and is a passionate advocate for and speaker on adoption issues. She and her family live in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Book Description: The inspiring true story of a four-year-old Chinese orphan who convinces her adoptive American family to return to China to rescue the little boy she couldn’t forget.
Adopted by an American family at age four, Jaclyn traveled to her new home with a great burden. Her new family had to leave behind a little boy who had been under her charge at the Chinese orphanage where Jaclyn fought the odds against abandonment, institutionalization, and hunger---not for herself, but on behalf of this even smaller child, whom she regarded as her responsibility.

Notes from Nadia

My dh and I both thought the book was very compelling. The story of Jaclyn and the child she feels responsible for is one that sticks with you long after you have completed the last page of the book. We learned in depth information about orphanage life, wating children and China's process of registering children for adoption.

Reaching far beyond those topics, the book touched us emotioinally and truly broke our hearts. Learning about one child's story has made the reality of the millions of abandoned children in China much more real to us.

I would recommend this book to anyone who might consider adopting a waiting child. However, it is a book that is helpful to all those adopting from China as well.
